Nagy Doubles Up, So Does Jessup

Point Loma's Andrew Nagy is the PacWest Player AND Newcomer of the Year. Jessup claims two special awards, and Westmont's Justin Leslie is the Coach of the Year.

Pacific West Conference champion Point Loma landed two special awards and two first team selections on the 2025-26 all-conference team, selected by the league's 13 head coaches.

Three of those four positions are held by the same person. Andrew Nagy of the Sea Lions was selected as the PacWest Player of the Year, the Newcomer of the Year and he was also named to the All-PacWest First Team.

Jessup earned their first special awards since joining the PacWest, and they received two of them on the same day. Tom Parsons was voted in as the Freshman of the Year and Andre Norris is the Defender of the Year. First-year leader Justin Leslie of Westmot was named by his peers as Coach of the Year.

Andrew Nagy, who started eight games last season and played in 26 at Long Beach State as a freshman, was the choice of the PacWest coaches for both Player and Newcomer of the Year. The sophomore led the Sea Lions in scoring (15.4) and rebounds (5.9), and topped the entire conference in field goal percentage at .634. He was a consistent force for the champs, scoring in double figures in 22 games, including 17 straight. He had a season high of 27 points againsrt Azusa Pacific and 13 rebounds against Biola. He was always efficient, hitting 10-of-12 shots for 23 points against Menlo, for instance.

Players and coaches new to their teams won the next three awards.

Andre Norris is the Defender of the Year, one year after transferring from Hawaii Hilo. Norris led the PacWest in steals (80) and steals per game (2.9), both by a large margin. In fact he listed second in the NCAA rankings in total steals and was third in steals per game. He also averaged five defensive rebounds per game from his guard position. "Andre is one of best defenders I've coached," said his coach Mark Darnall. "He constantly had the toughest assignments every night in league and made it tough on his matchup every game where he held many inefficient and below their averages."

Norris' teammate Tom Parsons is the Freshman of the Year. Parsons led all freshman in the conference in scoring at 11.6 per game, and he had five 20+ scoring games against league teams. The Australian shot 50 percent from the field and nearly 80 percent from the free throw line. The 6-foot-7 forward had a career-high 24 points at Fresno Pacific and averaged nearly five rebounds a game.

Justin Leslie may be in his first year as the coach at Westmont but he is not new to PacWest teams by any stretch. Selected by his peers as the Coach of the Year, Leslie was at Azusa Pacific from 2007-2019 and spent the last six seasons at Midwestern State. In those 18 seasons, he was 352-201. Now, after a 17-11 season leading the Warriors, he is 369-212 in 19 seasons. Westmont was picked to finish eighth in the conference preseason poll, but ended up on the second rung of the conference standings to earn a first round bye in the PacWest tournament, which starts tomorrow (March 5-7).

Of the above mentioned special award winners, only Nagy was named to the PacWest First Team. Rounding out that group of six is Erik Howlin (Vanguard), Joshua West (Hawaii Pacific), Jarrett Bryant (Westmont), Jaden Matingou (Point Loma) and MaCarhy Morris (Concordia).

Howlin led the PacWest is scoring at 19.0 points per game, one year after a career at Biola. He was also fourth in the conference in field goal percentage at .521. He had a season-best of 33 points against Concordia. West is fresh off a 39 point game against Concordia, and he also put up 31 points last weekend in Hawaii Pacific's upset of Point Loma. West ranks fourth in the PacWest in scoring (17 ppg) and steals (1.9). Westmont's Bryant averaged 15.5 points a game and was fifth in the conference in accuracy at 51 percent. He listed second in three-point marksmanship at .422 percent.

Matingou led the PacWest in assists with an even four per game, while averaging 12.2 points per contest. He shot 52 percent from the field and averaged 4.2 rebounds a game. The local product had a season-high 27 points last week against Hawaii Pacific. Morris, a First Team All-Cascade Conference selection last year at Lewis-Clark State (Idaho), was fourth in the PacWest in scoring at 16.6 points per game. He scored in double figures 26 of Concordia's 28 games and scored over 20 on nine occasions. Morris hit the game-winner with seven seconds left against Hawaii Pacific last weekend to vault the Golden Eagles into the PacWest tournament.

Named to the Second Team were Quintin Meza (HPU), Kaden Minter (CUI), Cameron Brown (BU), Aidan Mandel (WC), Seth Brown (FPU) and Nick Medeiros (DUC). Third team selections were Isaac Peralta (FPU), Shad Thomas (APU), Kent King (CUH), Tyus Parrish-Tillman (BU), Julio Montes II (UHH), and Andrew Hommes (PLNU).

This is mostly a newcomers list in 2025-26, with only West, Peralta, Paulsen, and Montes II having been named to the all-conference team before.

The 2026 Pacific West Conference Championships begin tomorrow (Thursday) in San Diego. To see the complete tournament schedule, along ticket information and much more, visit the Championship page here.
