PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Concordia’s Veronica Moore, Jr., 1B, 5-5, R/R, Westminster, Calif.
Concordia’s Veronica Moore went 4-for-6 during the Golden Eagles’ doubleheader sweep of Azusa Pacific, driving in six runs. The junior first baseman bashed two home runs, had a double and scored three times as CUI won 9-1 and 3-0. The Fullerton College transfer had both home runs and five of the RBI in the 9-1 victory. Moore now has seven home runs on the year and has driven in 24 runs in 45 games.
PITCHER OF THE WEEK: Concordia’s Jayden Nishi, Jr., LHP, 5-1, Torrance, Calif.
Concordia’s Jayden Nishi is the Pitcher of the Week for the fourth time in her career after tossing 5-hit shutout against Azusa Pacific on Saturday. The junior lefthander threw 81 pitches in the complete game win, allowing just five hits, no walks and she fanned three. It was Nishi’s fourth straight appearance without giving up a run, her third 7-inning shutout and she has given up just two total runs in her last 22.2 innings pitched.
TEAM(s) OF THE WEEK: The PacWest Teams of the Week are the
Concordia Golden Eagles and the
Biola Eagles. CUI’s sweep against playoff contender Azusa Pacific by 9-1 and 3-0 scores boosted their PacWest record to 25-5 and they are 35-11 overall. The Golden Eagles have won five straight games. Biola won their 11 and 12th straight games with a twinbill killing of Vanguard to move to 19-4 in league play and 26-15 overall.
Kacie Gossett (CUI) and
Kayla Bousequette (BU) both threw complete games, while
Alexa Sheard went 4-for-4 for the Eagles in one of the contests at the plate.
Biola’s Lillianna Garcia hit two home runs in one of the victories over the Lions.
THIS WEEK IN THE PACWEST: Dominican and Jessup will step outside of PacWest play tomorrow (Tuesday), traveling to San Francisco State and CSU Monterey Bay respectively for doubleheaders. Vanguard’s Mari Ipatzi threw a 3-hit shutout during a 1-0 non-conference win over CSU San Bernardino. She walked one and struck out four….The unbalanced schedule makes it a little more difficult to chart the standings, but six teams have .500 or better records in a battle for the top four spots.
