TEAM OF THE WEEK: Point Loma Sea Lions
Point Loma is the Team of the Week after two home sweeps, one over Vanguard and the other over No. 10 nationally ranked Cal Poly Pomona.
Kyra Miles was a consistent force on offense, hitting .417 for the week with 18 total kills.
Kira Federico continued to keep balls in play for the Sea Lions to get another attack (see below). Against the Broncos in a 25-28, 26-24, 25-19 win, Federico had 20 digs and Miles had 11 kills. PLNU also had 14 blocks. Against the Lions, it was
Gianna Callari with 11 kills and a .421 hitting percentage. Federico had 15 digs and
Ila Rose had a PacWest high nine service aces. Point Loma has now won four in a row and is 11-4 overall and 6-2 in PacWest play.
PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Concordia’s Emma Wegleitner, OH, Jr., 5-11, Boerne, Texas
Concordia’s Emma Wegleitner wins back-to-back awards, this time hitting a sizzling .442 with 16 kills each in wins over CSU Los Angeles and Westmont. The junior from Texas averaged 4.57 kills per set and 3.71 digs per set. The 2025 Second Team All-PacWest pick had double-doubles in each match with 11 and 15 digs respectively, and she also had four service aces. The 5-11 junior, who previously played at Division I Grand Canyon prior to arriving in Irvine last year, has helped the Golden Eagles win their sixth and seventh straight matches. They have swept all seven opponents in PacWest play and are 8-0 at home this season.
DEFENDER OF THE WEEK: Point Loma’s Kira Federico, DS, Sr., 5-5, Peoria, Ariz.
Point Loma’s Kira Federico goes back-to-back-to-back in the Defender of the Week category after another top flight pair of matches. The PacWest leader in digs (4.98 per set) averaged a robust 5.83 digs per set in PLNU’s sweeps of Vanguard and Cal Poly Pomona with 15 and 20 respectively. Federico’s 20 marked the fourth time this season she has had 20 or more digs in a match, and she has been in double figures in every match this season. The Arizona native now has 593 digs in 2.5 seasons at Point Loma.
PACWEST NEWS AND NOTES: Hawaii Hilo won both of their matches with sweeps over Dominican and Jessup.
LC Nakagawa led the Vulcan defense with 4.17 digs per set and
Alohi Garcia averaged 3.0 kills and 3.0 digs per set…Biola had its 10-match winning streak snapped at
Westmont (3-1). The Eagles won the first set but the Warriors roared back to take the next three games.
Audrey Hyde had 14 kills and hit .538 for the Warriors,
Jordan Weston had nine block assists and
Rylee Elias had 17 digs to lead the upset
….Julianna Van Ommering had 17 kills to lead Biola and she averaged 4.25 kills per set for the week…
Hawaii Pacific’s Sophia Cooper had 12 kills and hit .256 as the Sharks picked up their first PacWest win with a victory over Dominican…
Concordia leads the PacWest with a 7-0 mark, followed closely by
Biola (7-1),
Point Loma (6-2) and

LOOKING AHEAD: There are just nine PacWest matches on the docket this week, and one non-conference bout (Wednesday, PLNU at CSU San Bernardino). Biola heads to the island to play three matches in four days, and Westmont and Vanguard head far west as well.
