Point Loma's Postseason Run Ends In West Regional Championship

BELLINGHAM, Wash. -- Point Loma had its 13-match unbeaten streak snapped on Thursday night in a 1-0 loss against No. 3 seed Western Washington in the NCAA West Regional championship match at Harrington Field.

Western Washington scored the only goal of the game in the 27th minute on a header by Emily Nelson on a free kick from 45 yards away. The goal gave the Vikings their first West Region title since winning the national championship in 2016. The No. 3 seed improved to 20-2 on the season.

Point Loma took four shots in the match and put two on frame, but couldn't find the equalizer. The Sea Lions finish the year with a 14-5-2 record after making their deepest playoff run since joining NCAA Division II.

Western Washington will go onto play against Dixie State on Saturday after the Trailblazers won the South Central Region in the first match on Thursday. Point Loma defeated Dixie State 2-0 in the second match of the season.
