Azusa Pacific Finishes In Top-20 To Lead PacWest In Director's Cup

CLEVELAND -- Azusa Pacific earned 228 points in the Director's Cup Standings this spring, scoring points in four sports to move into the top 20 in the nation in the final standings for 2018-19. The Cougars led 10 PacWest schools with points and were joined by Point Loma and Academy of Art in the top 100.

Azusa Pacific's best result of the spring came from the women's tennis team, which reached the national quarterfinals after upsetting Central Oklahoma in the first round of the national tournament. It was the second Cougars team to reach the national quarterfinals, joining the women's basketball team. Azusa Pacific baseball won a third-straight PacWest title and won the West Sub-Regional on its home field. Azusa Pacific also earned points in men's tennis and women's track & field.

Academy of Art finished the year in 50th place after earning points in four spring sports. The biggest sum of points came from men's track & field, where Mobolade Ajomale won an individual national championship to lead the team to a ninth-place finish. The Urban Knights' women's golf team narrowly missed out on a national championships berth after a strong result at the Super Regional, while Anahi Servin earned a spot in the national tournament as an individual. Academy of Art also earned points in women's tennis and women's track & field.

Point Loma finished the year in 92nd place and earned 50 points this spring from the baseball team, which reached the West Sub-Regional final. Hawai`i Pacific and Hawai`i Hilo both earned 83 points in men's tennis after reaching the national semifinals. The Sharks also got 73 points from the women's tennis team's run to the national quarterfinals. In softball, Concordia earned 64 points after winning the PacWest title and the West Sub-Regional.
