PACWEST WOMEN’S SOCCER WEEKLY NOTEBOOK
IRVINE, Calif. -- Point Loma won both of its matches last week to improve to 2-1 on the season after beating two previously undefeated teams.
The Sea Lions got their first win of the season by beating Dixie State, 2-0 at home. The Trailblazers were receiving votes in the national poll.
Julia Glaser scored on a penalty kick in the 75th minute for her 11th career game-winning goal.
On Saturday, Point Loma defeated Cal State LA, which was ranked eighth in the United Soccer Coaches West Region Rankings. The game-winning goal came in the 75th minute again for the Sea Lions’ second win.
Academy of Art became the first PacWest team to reach three wins on the season by beating Mills, 7-0.
Anissa Wilson only played 44 minutes but scored twice and assisted another goal. On her second goal, she tied the ART U single-season record of seven goals with 14 matches left this season.
Biola got its first win of the season with a 2-0 victory over Concordia (Ore.), taking out last year’s No. 3 team in the West Region.
Annmarie Alvarez assisted the game-winning goal and scored an insurance goal in the 55th minute.
This week, Fresno Pacific will look for its first win of the season on Wednesday against Cal State LA. Notre Dame de Namur will host Stanislaus State, which is undefeated so far this season, on Thursday. Point Loma will host Seattle Pacific and Northwest Nazarene.
Weekly Awards for the week of Sept. 9-15
PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Anissa Wilson, Academy of Art
F, Sr., 5-4 -- Fresno, Calif.
Wilson added to her incredible start to the 2019 season with three more goals and an assist in the Urban Knights’ games against San Francisco State and Mills. The Senior has now scored in four-consecutive games with three multi-goal games for a total of seven goals, which already ties the ART U single-season record. Wilson scored once against the Gators for the team’s only goal. She then scored twice and assisted a goal in 44 minutes against Mills. Academy of Art is the first PacWest team to three wins this season.
DEFENDER OF THE WEEK
Christina Rodriguez, Biola
GK, Sr., 5-5 -- Menifee, Calif.
Rodriguez played 135 minutes at goalkeeper and didn’t allow as goal as Biola went 1-1 on the week. Rodriguez made five saves in one half against Seattle Pacific with no goals allowed on Thursday. Then on Saturday, Rodriguez recorded a 2-0 shutout victory over Concordia (Ore.), which reached the NCAA West Regional semifinals last year. Rodriguez had six saves in the shutout and brought her goals-against average down to 1.20 on the season. It was the Eagles’ first win of the season.
FRESHMAN OF THE WEEK
Jadenn Carrillo, Concordia
F, Fr., 5-5 -- Anaheim Hills, Calif.
Carrillo scored her second career goal in the Eagles’ tie against Dixie State on Saturday. She played a career-high 84 minutes and took another career-high six shots before scoring the equalizer to tie the game. In the 84th minute, Concordia had a corner kick opportunity, trailing 2-1. A little later, Carrillo scored an unassisted goal to tie the game and send it to overtime. The freshman has taken 16 shots this year, which is the most in the PacWest.
