IRVINE, Calif. -- Azusa Pacific extended its record-breaking PacWest winning streak to 23 wins in a row last week before Hawai`i Pacific snapped that streak in the form of a 1-1 draw on Saturday.
The Cougars had not lost or tied a PacWest match since the 2017 season, smashing the previous record of 16-consecutive wins set by Dixie State earlier in the 2017 season. Azusa Pacific still now has a 24-match unbeaten streak in conference matches, which is also a PacWest record.
Leandro Weingartner broke a scoreless tie in the 62nd minute for Hawai`i Pacific to help the Sharks earn a point in the PacWest standings.
Point Loma kept sole possession of first place in the standings with its fifth-consecutive shutout win on Saturday, beating Academy of Art 2-0.
Corey Lundeen scored two goals this week for the Sea Lions, who also defeated Concordia in a non-conference match as they improved to 5-2-1 on the season.
Dominican opened the week with a 2-1 win over San Francisco State. The Penguins have now won five matches in a row. Biola also picked up its fifth win of the season on Thursday, beating Academy of Art, 4-0. That means there are now four teams in the PacWest with five wins going into next week’s action.
Two of those four teams will face each other this week with Point Loma hosting Biola on Wednesday, giving this week’s PacWest award winners a chance to go head-to-head. Holy Names, which won its PacWest opener last Sunday, will visit Academy of Art this Sunday.

PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Adam Jones, Biola
F, Fr., 6-0 -- Spokane, Wash.
Jones scored twice in Biola’s 4-0 win over Academy of Art on Thursday for the first two goals of his collegiate career. He only needed 28 minutes of playing time to make his impact on the game as he helped the Eagles win their first PacWest match, improving to 5-3, 1-0 on the season. The match was tied at halftime with both teams having limited opportunities to score. Aidan Hill broke the scoreless tie in the 53rd minute to give the Eagles a 1-0 lead. Then Jones added to that lead in the 67th minute with his first career goal off an assist from Theo Le Calve. Jones didn’t stop there making his second career goal less than six minutes later with Daniel Simonis credited with the assist. That gave Biola a 3-0 lead and minutes later Izaac Zausch scored to make it a 4-0 win for Biola, which is now one of four PacWest teams with five wins this season.
