IRVINE, Calif. -- The PacWest Player of the Week are Jakob Schnaitter from Azusa Pacific and Lilly McNeil from Biola after both athletes led their repsective squads to wins with big implications for next month's PacWest Championships.

On the men's side, Hawai`i Hilo and Colorado Mesa both made trips to Southern California for a handful of important matches among PacWest teams that will go a long way for determining the seeding of the PacWest Championships. Biola and Concordia both earned sweeps against the Mavericks on their home courts.

Hawai`i Hilo earned victories against Biola and Concordia, while Azusa Pacific defeated the Vulcans 4-3 on Saturday. Hawai`i Hilo will wrap up its trip to Southern California today against Point Loma. Azusa Pacific faced Point Loma on Friday and got a 6-0 win.

In women's tennis, it was a busy week for Biola. The Eagles started the week in the Bay Area and got a pair of wins against Dominican and Academy of Art. Then Biola returned home and earned a victory against Colorado Mesa and Fresno Pacific for four wins in just eight days.

Azusa Pacific also earned wins against Point Loma and Colorado Mesa, while Concordia defeated Colorado Mesa on Friday.

Weekly awards for the week of March 1-7

MEN'S TENNIS PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Jakob Schnaitter, Azusa Pacific

Azusa Pacific got four wins in the last week, and Schnaitter was at No. 1 in singles for all of those wins. Against NCAA Division I UC Riverside, Schnaitter earned a 6-4, 6-3 win at No. 1 singles. Then on Friday he collected a 6-0, 6-2 win against Point Loma's Tyler Davis. The next day, he clinched the doubles point alongside Leyton Bohren at No. 1 doubles, 6-4 and defeated Hawai`i Hilo's Martin Soukal 7-5, 6-3 at No. 1 singles in a battle of two of the top singles players in all of NCAA Division II. Earlier in the day, Schnaitter had recorded a 6-1, 6-3 win against Steven Howe from Colorado Mesa. Schnaitter is now on a 20-match winning streak at No. 1 singles in dual matches for Azusa Pacific.

WOMEN'S TENNIS PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Lilly McNeil, Biola

Biola went 4-0 last week and McNeil played a key part in each of those four wins for the Eagles with four wins at No. 4 singles. Her biggest win of the week was her first against Academy of Art. All other matches were done and the overall scored was tied 3-3, putting the entire match on the freshman's shoulders. McNeil came through for her team in a big way, claiming a 6-4, 4-6, 7-6(5) victory in a deciding tiebreaker to give Biola its first win against a PacWest team this season. That set the Eagles on a roll as they swept Dominican and Colorado Mesa in the next two matches. In the second of those matches, McNeil won her singles match without dropping a single game. Then on Saturday, McNeil was locked in another three-set battle. Biola led 3-2 against Fresno Pacific in another key battle for seeding at the PacWest Championships as well as for qualifying for the NCAA West Regionals. McNeil got the clinching victory in three sets again for Biola, winning 6-3, 5-7, 6-1 as she dominated the deciding set. Biola now has a 7-2 overall record.
