Jakob Schnaitter and Academy of Art’s
Yun “Nicole” Shiau. Teams will next compete in the PacWest Tennis Championships in Surprise, Arizona, starting on April 21.

MEN’S TENNIS PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Jakob Schnaitter, Azusa Pacific

During the last decade, when the Azusa Pacific and Hawai`i Pacific No. 1 singles players face each other, it has often been a battle between the top-2 candidates for PacWest Player of the Year. On Saturday, Schnaitter got his first chance in his career to face one of HPU’s No. 1 singles players, and he won the match, beating
Benjamin Loccisano, 6-1, 6-2. The win not only helped Azusa Pacific complete its second undefeated regular season against PacWest schools in program history. It also completed a perfect regular season for Schnaitter, who did not drop a set in singles all year. In fact, he never lost five games in one set twice all year. Schnaitter also won at No. 1 doubles alongside
Leyton Bohren, 6-1, as the duo improved to 13-3 on the season.
WOMEN’S TENNIS PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Yun “Nicole” Shiau, Academy of Art

Shiau clinched Academy of Art’s 4-3 victory against Fresno Pacific in the regular season finale. Playing against Fresno Pacific’s
Mariia Borodii, Shiau fought through a tough first set and won the final two games to take it,7-5. She then battled through a long second set and with all other matches finished and everyone surrounding her court, Shiau clinched the victory, 7-5, 6-3. The win avenged the Urban Knights loss at home to the Sunbirds earlier in the season as Shiau improved to 5-2 on the season.
