Servin Earns Third PacWest Golfer of the Year Award

IRVINE, Calif. – For the third year in a row, Academy of Art’s Anahi Servin is the PacWest Championships winner and the PacWest Golfer of the Year, marking the fourth year in a row that Academy of Art has won the award. PacWest Champion Point Loma also earned two awards with Lance Hancock being named the PacWest Coach of the Year, and Nicola Kaminski was selected as the PacWest Freshman of the Year.

Servin came into her junior season with a target on her back as the two-time PacWest individual champion, but she handled the expectations and put together a dominant season to earn the coaches’ recognition as the unanimous Golfer of the Year. During the regular season, Servin won four PacWest Golfer of the Week awards and took home three individual titles and two runner-up finishes in the five tournaments. She becomes only the sixth student-athlete in PacWest history across all sports to receive a sport’s highest individual honor three times.

Throughout her junior season, Servin has not finished behind a PacWest golfer all year. Then at the PacWest Championships, Servin finished the first round in a tie for second place. She improved her scores each round, shooting a 1-under-par 69 in the second round and then a 3-under-par 67 in the final round to run away with the title by a nine-shot margin for her third individual title at the PacWest Championships in as many years.

Kaminski had a strong freshman season to introduce herself to the PacWest as she helped Point Loma win four titles as a team. Her best individual performance was at the RJGA Palm Valley Classic, which Kaminski won with a score of 2-udner-par 142. The tournament featured some of the best players in the West and South Central regions, including 12 nationally ranked golfers. Kaminski shot a 4-under-par 68 in the second round to move up 11 spots on the leaderboard and win the tournament by a shot. At the PacWest Championships, Kaminski finished in a tie for seventh place to help the Sea Lions win the team title.

Hancock earned his first PacWest Coach of the Year honor by Point Loma to four team titles in five tournaments. The Sea Lions opened the season by winning the Eagle Invitational, and then won the Bay Area Invitational and the RJGA Palm Valley Classic. Then at the PacWest Championships, the Sea Lions put together a dominant performance to win the event with a score of 64-over-par 904 to win the tournament by 21 shots. Kaminski, Alli Kim and Christine Perez all finished in the top-10 of the championships.

Servin, Kim and Perez were all repeat selections to the All-PacWest team along with Sami Penor from Biola, who earned her second selection. Dominican’s Claire Shubin also earned first-team all-conference recognition after she took second place at the PacWest Championships with a score of 7-over-par 217. Dominican and Point Loma both had five players on the All-PacWest team, while Biola received three honors.
