IRVINE, Calif. – After finishing runner-up at the PacWest Championships, Academy of Art’s
Anahi Servin was voted by the PacWest coaches as the 2022 PacWest Golfer of the Year, giving her the award for the fourth time in her career, leading this year’s All-PacWest awards.
Biola’s
Jane Carr was voted the PacWest Coach of the Year by her peers after leading the Eagles to the PacWest title for the first time in program history.
Raquel Prado from Point Loma and
Lauren Lee from Biola were selected as Co-Freshmen of the Year. Dominican’s
Claire Shubin is the PacWest Champion and is the top-ranked golfer in the PacWest going into regionals according to GolfStat, which was used to determine the All-PacWest teams.
Servin has now collected the Golfer of the Year award in all four years of her collegiate career, which has been the most decorated of any golfer in PacWest history. The three-time PacWest champion has now become just the third student-athlete in conference history to win her sport’s highest athletic honor all four years, joining BYU-Hawaii’s Shih Ting Chen (volleyball) and Dallas Zhang (women’s tennis).
Throughout her career at Academy of Art, Servin has won 13 collegiate tournaments and on 17 different occasions was the top PacWest golfer, earning a record-setting 17 career weekly awards from the PacWest. Five times this season, the native of Paraguay had the PacWest’s best score, and she finished the regular season by winning the Texas A&M Desert Invite. At the PacWest Championships, she took second place individually, finishing just one shot behind Shubin in her pursuit of the Servin Slam. She is ranked No. 39 in the nation for this season and earned a spot as an individual in the NCAA West Super Regional.
Carr led Biola to its first PacWest title since joining the conference in the summer of 2017. The Eagles had five All-PacWest performers this year under Carr’s tutelage.
Brady Turnquist dominated during the fall portion of the season, winning four PacWest Golfer of the Week awards, and she is joined on the first team by three-time All-PacWest selection
Sami Penor, who led the Eagles at the PacWest Championships, en route to the title. Lee,
Melanie Reyes and
Rachel Shaw each made important contributions to Biola’s success this year during their freshman seasons.
Lee was an important part of Biola’s run to the PacWest title at the Wigwam Resort. She took eighth place with a score of 16-over-par 232. She had the team’s best score in the third round at 3-over-par 75 to help the Eagles hold off Dominican by just three strokes, coming from behind at the end of the third round.
Prado helped Point Loma win the PacWest title last year, but retained her status as a freshman since Point Loma played less than the minimum number of contests last season. At this year’s PacWest Championships, she had the best score of any freshman, taking fifth place with a score of 13-over-par 229. She made a strong finish to the tournament, shooting a 1-under-par 71 on the final day to shoot up the leaderboard and help the Sea Lions take fifth.
