Point Loma made a final preseason statement with a pair of non-conference wins against league contenders, and Biola won both weekly awards during a week of very interesting matches in PacWest men’s soccer action.
The Sea Lions defeated preseason favorite Azusa Pacific and took out Concordia to earn Team of the Week. Kristian Colaci (Biola) wins his second Player of the Week award behind three total goals and Eagle teammate JD Gunn set a NCAA era school record for Biola with 13 saves in a 2-2 tie with Concordia to gain Defender of the Week honors.

PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Biola’s Kristian Colaci, F, 5-10, Jr., Milan, Italy
For the second time in this young season,
Biola’s Kristian Colaci is the PacWest Player of the Week. He helped his Eagles to a big 3-0 win over preseason favorite Azusa Pacific by scoring twice, and added another score in a 2-2 tie with Concordia. The Italian had just three shots against the Cougars but made them count with two goals, including the first score of the contest. Versus the Golden Eagles, Colaci tied the match just after halftime with one of his five shots of the match (four on goal). For the season, the junior transfer from Texas A&M International has seven goals (14 points), three more scores than anyone else in the PacWest.
DEFENDER OF THE WEEK: Biola’s JD Gunn, GK, 6-5, Jr., Panama City, Panama
JD Gunn, the PacWest Preseason Defender of the Year, had 13 saves against Concordia to preserve a 2-2 tie. That total ties for the 10
th highest mark in PacWest history and is a new NCAA era mark at Biola. He faced 26 total shots in the match in a wild encounter in La Mirada. Earlier in the week during the 3-0 victory over defending PacWest champ Azusa Pacific, Gunn had three saves and the shutout against the Cougars to help his team pick up its first victory of the year. For the season, the 6-foot-5 stopper is tied for the PacWest lead with 28 saves.
POINT LOMA GETS A PAIR OF WINS OVER SoCAL RIVALS: The PacWest Team of the Week is the
Point Loma Nazarene Sea Lions. Point Loma got very defensive in 2-0 and 1-0 victories over
Concordia and
Azusa Pacific respectively last week.
Seth Ketterer was clutch in the goal with four total saves and two shutouts on the week.
London Lombana had two assists in the victory over the Golden Eagles and
Corey Lundeen scored the only goal of the match against APU. After a 1-3-2 start, Point Loma has now evened their mark at 3-3-2 heading into conference play.
PACWEST NEWS AND NOTES: Hawai`i Pacific won big in its’ only match of the week, a 4-0 verdict of
Chaminade. Gerrit Arzberger and
Makana Srivongsana had two goals each in the win, helping the Sharks improve to 2-2-2 on the season. Arzberger’s goals came in the 29
th and 32
nd minutes…
