Conference Champion Sea Lions Headline All-PacWest Squad

Point Loma wins half of the special awards and have a half dozen First Team honorees.

IRVINE, Calif.—Pacific West Conference champion Point Loma also “won” the 2024 all-conference awards, claiming half the special trophies along with six First Team selections.

The Sea Lions, who won their second consecutive PacWest regular season title with a 9-1-1 mark (11-2-3 overall), had the Player of the Year in Elijah Langford, the Defender of the Year in Ryan Doyle and the Coach of the Year, Phil Wolf. It was Wolf’s second straight plaque as well.

The Sea Lions will be the No. 1 seed in the Pacific West Conference tournament, taking on No. 4 Fresno Pacific tomorrow (Thursday) at Great Park in Irvine (11 am). No. 2 seed Westmont will play No. 3 Hawai`i Hilo at 1:30.

Concordia’s Miguel Arroyo is the Newcomer of the Year. First-year programs in the conference made a splash as well with Aidan Hay (Vanguard) as the Goalkeeper of the Year and Jessup’s Jalen Scott as the Freshman of the Year. Additionally, first-year member Menlo finished second in the conference, just two points (26) behind the Sea Lions.

Phil Wolf is in his 13th season leading the Sea Lion program. It's his third PacWest Coach of the Year award (2020 and 2023) and he has had nine straight winning campaigns. After beginning the 2024 season at 1-1-2, Wolf’s team has gone 10-1-1 and has a No. 5 ranking in the NCAA Super Region 4. Prior to rebuilding the Point Loma program, he led Azusa Pacific to three NAIA title matches, winning the national championship in 2006. He now has a career mark of 238-104-44.

PLNU’s Elijah Langford is the Player of the Year. The sophomore from Oklahoma had ten goals and eight assists on the season, leading the PacWest in points with 28. The ten goals and eight assists both list second in the conference. Eight of his goals came in PacWest matches, and five of his scores went into the scoresheet as game winners.

Fellow Sea Lion Ryan Doyle is the Defender of the Year. Doyle, also a sophomore, helped lead Point Loma’s defense to a road-blocking 1.00 goals against average, best in the conference. Doyle, who made eight starts last year as a freshman, led Point Loma in minutes played in 2024 (1,337). He also had two assists on the year.

Miguel Arroyo is the Newcomer of the Year, after transferring to Concordia from Long Beach City College. The junior led the Golden Eagles in goals with six, assists (four) and points (22). He had three goals and an assist during a road trip to the bay area, earning PacWest Player of the Week honors. Concordia was 4-0-1 this year when Arroyo scored in a match.  Arroyo was also selected to the All-PacWest First Team.

Two of the PacWest’s first-year members were voted to the other two awards by the conference’s coaches. Aidan Hay from Vanguard is the Goalkeeper of the Year, helping lead the Lions to a third-place finish in the conference. He had a goals against average of 1.071 and had 46 saves. Hay’s save percentage was .754 and he had five shutouts. The Lions gave up the fewest goals in the league with 15.

The Freshman of the Year is Jalen Scott, a forward from Jessup. Scott started every match this season for the Warriors (except for Senior Day) and led his team with 14 points. The Sacramento native led Jessup with five goals and four assists, and finished the 2024 season with assists in three consecutive matches.

The Sea Lions, tied a program best with six players on the First Team, including Langford and Doyle. Midfielder Milan Diklic was named to the First Team for the third consecutive time, a first in program history. The France native scored twice on the year with an assist, with both scores coming in two of the last three matches.

Felix Calero was a repeat selection for the Sea Lions with seven goals and nine assists on the year. His assist total leads the PacWest and he currently has 23 points. Milo Libby, the 2023 PacWest Defender of the Year, won his third All-PacWest award, leading the Point Loma defense from the back row. Sophomore Simon Sagal is the sixth PLNU player on the First Team after scoring three goals with eight assists this Fall. That dish total is second in the conference, with all eight coming in league play.

Westmont had two First Team selections in Connor Lynch and Erik Guerrero. Lynch, a senior, has six goals and eight assists coming into the conference tournament. Guerrero, a junior, had eight goals and two assists (18 points). Three of his scores were game winners.

Hawai`i Hilo’s Koki Hamada won his third All-PacWest award in his third year with the program. The junior defender played all 90 minutes in 14 of the Vulcan’s matches, helping his team to six shutouts.

Six additional All-PacWest selections this year have won all-conference honors before, including Biola’s Ethan Hardin (Second Team), who won his third award.
