Elia Wins Spring Fling, Warriors Capture Second and Team of the Week

Vanguard's Alexander Elia shot a 66 on his way to medalist honors at Dominican's tournament, with Jessup finishing second as a team.

Vanguard’s Alexander Elia had a three-round score of -3 to win Dominican’s tournament, which included a sizzling score of 66. Jessup finished second at the Dominican Spring Fling to earn Team of the Week.

Vanguard’s Alex Elia pocketed his first career win by topping the field at Dominican’s Spring Fling at the Sonoma GC this week. The sophomore finished his three rounds at -3, and was all over the place to get there. He opened the tournament with a 78, but bounced back with a 66 (the second lowest school in Lion school history) and ended with a 69 to win by three shots over Jessup’s Jacobus Brakkee (even par). Elia had nine birdies during his 66 round and had an eagle during his final 18 holes.

Team of the Week: Jessup Warriors                                                                                                                    
Jessup is the Team of the Week after finishing second at DUC’s Spring Fling. The Warriors (+17) were seven shots back of winner CSU Dominguez Hills and one shot ahead of Vanguard. Jacobus Brakkee was Jessup’s top scorer at even par, three shots behind winner Alez Elia (VU). The Warriors were consistent after that, with three players all clocking in at +6—Paolo Castaneda, Nick Chavarin and Braden Armstrong.

PACWEST NEWS AND NOTES: At Sonoma (DUC’s event), Vanguard was just one shot back of Jessup, led by winner Alex Elia and Fisher Ransom (+2). Dominican was fourth at +21, paced by Daniel Marmorstein (+2). Menlo was fifth (+28) with Jack Stark leading the way (+1). Chaminade was paced by Cody Dao (+9)…Westmont finished ninth at the all-Division I UC Santa Barbara tournament, with three players all finishing at +8…Hawaii Pacific was 17th at Western New Mexico’s tournament in Goodyear, Ariz., with Kyle Krupp finishing tied for 12th at -8.

LOOKING AHEAD: Just one tournament remains before the 2026 PacWest Championships (April 20-22) at the Aliante Golf Club in North Las Vegas. Next week, Monday-Tuesday, Dominican, Menlo and Jessup will be in Turlock at Stanislaus State’s tournament.
