Jessup's Sarah Giles packed a punch with a home run a game (5) and 14 RBI at the Tournament of Champions in Turlock. Back in southern California, Biola's Kayla Bousquette was almost unhittable in three outings, giving up only two hits and no runs in nine innings of work. Dominican and Vanguard went 3-2 against really good competition at the Stanislaus State tournament to share Team of the Week.

PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Jessup's Sarah Giles, Sr., R/R, INF, 5-4, Hayward, Calif.
Jessup's Sarah Giles gives the Warriors back-to-back Players of the Week after putting up stunning numbers for five games in Turlock. The 2024 NAIA National Player of the Year showed that she can hit Division II pitching as well, stroking eight hits in 15 at-bats (.533) with five home runs and 14 RBI. Giles had a home run in each game of the tournament, and against CS San Bernardino she had three hits and drove in four runs. Giles also tripled, scored six runs and reached base via walk or hit by pitch five times. Against Cal State San Bernardino, she was a double short of the cycle, recording a triple, home run and four RBI. Giles also registered three RBI against Simon Fraser and Cal State Monterey Bay. In 11 games this season, Giles already has 24 RBI and is hitting .523. Last year, the first baseman hit .553 with 21 home runs and 73 RBI, leading the nation in all three categories. Her batting average was the third highest in NAIA history.
Today, Giles was also named the NFCA National Slugger of the Week.
PITCHER OF THE WEEK: Biola's Kayla Bousquette, Jr., RHP, 5-5, Simi Valley, Calif.
Biola's Kayla Bousquette tossed a complete game shutout and mopped up perfectly in two relief appearances last week for the Eagles. She blanked CS Dominguez Hills, ranked No. 19 nationally, on just two hits in seven innings of work in her one start. She walked two and fanned one during the 2-0 victory. In a pair of relief appearances the day before against the Toros, the righthander totaled 1.2 innings and did not give up a run or hit, and fanned one. In total, the junior pitched 8.2 innings, allowed no runs and just two hits.
TEAM(S) OF THE WEEK: The PacWest Teams of the Week atre the
Vanguard Lions and the
Dominican Penguins. Both teams went 3-2 at Stanislaus State's Tournament of Champions.
Dominican wins the award for the second week in a row after a trio of wins over CCAA teams Cal Poly Humboldt (2-0), CS Monterey Bay (3-1) and Chico State (2-0). The Penguins dropped close games to St. Martin's (6-5) and CS San Bernardino (4-2). DUC got terrific pitching in the five games, led by
Nay Torres-Gonzalez who pitched 11 total innings and allowed only two runs, and
Kassidy Stetler who threw 10 innings and did not allow a run.
Vanguard beat San Francisco State (4-1), Chico State (4-0) and Simon Fraser (8-0). The Lions two losses were to Sonoma State and St. Martin's, both by narrow 2-1 counts.
LeeAnne Miranda and
Summer Stephens led VU in the pitcher's circle, neither allowing a run in 12 total innings of work.
THIS WEEK IN THE PACWEST: PacWest play begins this week for eight of the conference squads. First, today (Tuesday) there are a pair of non-conference doubleheaders with Menlo hosting Simon Fraser and Biola traveling to Stanislaus State. On Wednesday Chaminade and Hawaii Pacific kick off the league season and by the weekend (Friday-Sunday) Vanguard will be at Dominican, Menlo is at Azusa Pacific and Hawaii Hilo goes to Chaminade.
