NORTH LAS VEGAS, Nev.--The
Biola University Eagles cruised to their third Pacific West Conference Women's Golf Championship title in the last four years, but that is only part of the story.
One day after setting a PacWest record for the lowest team 18-hole score (-4), the Eagles flirted with California Baptist's three-round record of +11 before settling in at +16.
All of this came in Biola's final PacWest women's golf tournament, as the program will be discontiued at the end of the season. But first, the Eagles will go to the NCAA West Region Championships, May 5-7, in Amarillo, Texas.
Biola sophomore
Karis Haltom picked a great time to win her first collegiate tournament. One day after recording a 68 to climb up the leaderboard, Haltom shot a 73 today for a final tally of +2 to win the tournament by one stroke.
The final medalist count wasn't for sure until the final hole while Haltom waited patiently. There ended up being a three-way tie for second, just one shot back at +3 between
Lily Landt (Hawaii Pacific),
Meritxell Illamola (Academy of Art) and
Ellexis Mingming (Dominican).
Tied for fifth place at +4 was
Hannah Camara (Westmont) and
Sehlai Purcell (Vanguard). Rounding out the top 10 was
Rachel Shaw (Biola) +7,
Rori Fanning (Menlo) at +8,
Theresa Shaw (Biola) +7, and
Holly Obermuller (Menlo) /
Claire Shubin (Biola) at +8.
In the team score,
Hawaii Pacific (+36) finished comfortably in second place, followed by
Academy of Art (+44) and
Dominican (+51).. The Sharks and Urban Knights will await word from the NCAA as to whether their season will continue or not into next month's regional tournament.
In fifth place was

Vanguard (+70), followed by
Jessup (+71),
Menlo (+73),
