Fresno Pacific is your early leader in the PacWest men's soccer standings after home wins over Chaminade and Hawai`i Pacific. Point Loma had two impressive non-conference victories over conference rivals, topping Azusa Pacific (5-2) and Westmont (2-0), with Cole Friesen scoring three of the Sea Lions' goals in the first half against the Cougars. Friesen's teammate Jeremy Caringella had a clean sheet against 2024 tournament champ Westmont to share keeper of the week honors with Biola's Francesco Tricarico, who shutout APU.

PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Point Loma's Cole Friesen, MF, Sr., 5-11, Chula Vista, Calif.
Point Loma's Cole Friesen scored three times, all in the first half, to lead a Sea Lion comeback during a 5-2 non-conference win over Azusa Pacific last week. At home, the Cougars jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first eight minutes of the contest, but Friesen flipped the script in a wild sequence of scoring over a 20-minute period to give his team a lead they wouldn't give up. The senior transfer from Whitworth College scored in the 20th minute, the 21st and the 41st with the third score proving to be the winning goal. Friesen's first two scores came 35 seconds apart. Whitworth's all-time leading scorer became the first Sea Lion in the NCAA era to complete a hat trick in the first half of a game. He now has six goals on the season.
DEFENDER(S) OF THE WEEK: Point Loma's Jeremy Caringella, GK, So., 6-1, Mission Viego, Calif.
Point Loma's Jeremy Caringella produced a clean sheet against 2024 PacWest tournament champion Westmont during a 2-0 Sea Lion win at home. The sophomore faced 17 shots and saved all four on goal on his way to his third shutout of the season. It was the first time that Westmont (4-2-1) has been shutout this season. The 2024 All-PacWest Third Team selection, who did not play in Point Loma's 5-2 win over Azusa Pacific, now has a 1.00 goals against average in five matches.
DEFENDER(S) OF THE WEEK: Biola's Francesco Tricarico, GK, So., 6-1, Cerignola, Italy
Biola's Francesco Tricarico kept rival Azusa Pacific off the scoreboard during the Eagles' 1-0 win over the Cougars in a non-conference Cornerstone Cup match. The Italian faced 10 shots and had four saves, giving him back-to-back clean sheets in a Biola uniform (he also had a shutout against CS Dominguez Hills on Sept. 20). The Iowa Western CC transfer now has a goals against average of 0.87.
TEAM OF THE WEEK: Fresno Pacific Sunbirds
Fresno Pacific is the Team of the Week after opening up PacWest play with two home victories over Chaminade (3-0) and Hawai`i Pacific (4-2). That pair of wins not only put the Sunbirds on top of the very early season standings, it also drew their overall record to 3-3. Against the Silverswords, the Sunbirds notched their first shutout of the season behind goal work from
Elmer Carballo (four saves), and goals from
Chris Macias, Lucas Ribeiro and
Zion Vaughn. FPU outshot CUH 27-7 and 10-4 in shots on goal. Versus the Sharks,
Julian Aran Martin scored twice in the first half to give the home team a lead that they wouldn't relinquish, and Ribeiro added two more scores in the second half to seal the victory. The win under the lights handed the Sharks their first loss of the season.
PACWEST NEWS AND NOTES: Hawai`i Hilo had a very impressive beginning to their mainland road trip, handing Menlo one of their two losses on the season while tying Dominican in a pair of conference matches.
Mirai Soto had a goal in each match for the Vulcans, who improved to 2-2-2 on the season heading into a match today (Monday) against Jessup..
