Sea Lions Secure Two Road Wins, 'Cougs and Eagles Earn Awards

Point Loma avenged a recent loss to Dominican with a 25-point road victory. Azusa Pacific topped Westmont behind Shad Thomas, and Biola went 2 OT's before topping Vanguard behind Tyus Parrish-Tillman's big game on defense.

Point Loma avenged a loss to Dominican earlier by taking out the Penguins and Menlo on the road for Team of the Week. Azusa Pacific’s Shad Thomas was also a road warrior in his team’s victory over Westmont with 21 points and 15 rebounds off the bench, and Biola’s Tyus Parrish-Tillman also had 15 rebounds and blocked seven shots in BU’s overtime win over Vanguard.

PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Azusa Pacific’s Shad Thomas, F-C, 6-7, 210, Grad., Union Island, St. Vincent and Grenadines            
Azusa Pacific’s Shad Thomas had a monster game off the bench helping the Cougars win their third straight contest with a 70-66 victory at Westmont. The Catawba transfer had 21 points, 15 rebounds, four blocked shots and five steals to hand the Warriors just their second conference loss. Five of his 15 rebounds were on the offensive end to help APU with second-chance opportunities. The 6-foot-7 post was also a perfect 5-for-5 from the field during a rout of Nobel in just 16 minutes of play for 10 points.
 
DEFENDER OF THE WEEK: Biola’s Tyus Parrish-Tillman, F, 6-8, 230, Jr., Fresno, Calif.                                                                   
Biola’s Tyus Parrish-Tillman had 15 rebounds and seven blocked shots during a double overtime victory for the Eagles over Vanguard, 85-76. The 6-foot-8 junior had 14 of his rebounds on the defensive end of the court and also added eight points and four assists. The rebound and block totals were season highs. This is Parrish-Tillman’s second PacWest award this year, as he also was the Player of the Week on December 9.

TEAM OF THE WEEK: The Point Loma Sea Lions won two road games to improve to 10-3 overall and 5-2 in PacWest play with wins over Dominican and Menlo. The 87-62 victory over the Penguins avenged a loss just a few weeks ago in San Diego (92-73) to DUC. This time, the Sea Lions built an early lead and nailed 22 of 25 free throws to keep the Penguins at a distance. Tyce Paulsen had 21 points and missed just two shots from the field. Caden Harris added 14 off the bench. Against the Oaks (74-51), James Nobles, Andrew Nagy and Harris had 13 points each as the Sea Lions led from start to finish.
 
PACWEST NEWS AND NOTES: Point Loma and Azusa Pacific were the only teams with two games last week. The Cougars beat Westmont 70-66 behind Shad Thomas’ big game (see above) and Tobias Aisien’s 16 points. Against Nobel, the Cougars had six players in double figures in the 94-45 victory…Concordia beat Dominican 70-65, despite trailing 37-30 at the break. The Golden Eagles, now 5-0 in PacWest play, outscored the Penguins 40-28 in the second half. Macarhy Morris led CUI with 20 points while Nick Medeiros paced DUC with 21…Hawaii Hilo posted their first win of the year with a 73-70 victory at Jessup. The Vulcans had five players in double figures, led by Dre Nobles with 19 points and eight rebounds. Varick Lewis had 23 for the Warriors…Fresno Pacific also had five players in double digits during a 84-72 victory over visiting Hawaii Pacific. Nick Davidson had 17 points and Isaac Peralta had all-around numbers with 15 points, eight rebounds, six assists and a pair of steals. Quentin Meza had 23 points for the Sharks…Cameron Brown had a monster game in Biola’s double OT victory against Vanguard. Brown had 31 points and six rebounds and Chris Harris added double-double numbers with 21 points and 13 boards. Former Eagle Erik Howlin had 25 points and eight rebounds for the Lions…Concordia is the only unbeaten team in PacWest play at 5-0. Chaminade, who was idle last week is next at 4-1, followed by Point Loma (5-2) and Westmont (3-2).
 
WHAT’S NEXT: The first week of 2026 is full of PacWest games, beginning today with Concordia traveling to Menlo, Hawaii Hilo is at Fresno Pacific and Hawaii Pacific goes to Jessup. Westmont is at Vanguard on Tuesday, and Thursday features Jessup at Point Loma, Vanguard at Concordia, Hilo at Dominican, Biola at Azusa Pacific and HPU at Menlo.
