Hoop Races Heating Up

The Road to San Diego still has just over two weeks of twists and turns before the field is settled for the 2026 PacWest Basketball Championships.

The end of the road to the 2026 Pacific West Conference Men's and Women's Basketball Championships is in sight, but still with two+ weeks of jockeying before the final field is set.

The top six teams after the conference schedule is completed on February 28 will qualify to make the trip to San Diego and Golden Gymnasium for the PacWest tournaments. The winner of the singles elimination event earns the PacWest's automatic berth into the NCAA tournament.

For the women's championship, only one game separates the top four teams in the standings (through Feb. 13). Defending champion Point Loma (14-3) has a half-game lead over Vanguard (13-3), with Westmont and Azusa Pacific one-game back (13-4). Dominican (12-5) currently sits in fifth and Concordia (11-7) has a hand on the sixth spot.

Biola (9-8), Menlo (7-10) and Hawaii Pacific (6-11) are still alive and chasing those last tournament spots.

For the men, 2025 champ Point Loma has a three-game lead over both Hawaii Pacific and Westmont (11-6). The Sea Lions defeated the Sharks last night (Thursday) to stretch that margin. Concordia is fourth (11-7), Dominican fifth (10-7) and Jessup sixth (10-8).

Packed in a bunch just outside looking in (for the moment) is Fresno Pacific (9-8), Vanguard (8-8), Chaminade (8-8), and Biola (7-10).
