Point Loma Runs Win Streak to 16

Sea Lions are off to a 16-0 beginning in PacWest play. Pitcher Derek Silva played a role in one of those games, while the Shark duo of Gabrillo and Arnold picked up two weekly awards.

Point Loma is off to a flying 16-0 start in PacWest play, sweeping four more games last week. Derek Silva pitched a gem in one of those four wins. Hawaii Pacific’s Tyler Arnold and Jayden Gabrillo are repeat award winners after their performances against Azusa Pacific.

PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Hawaii Pacific’s Tyler Arnold, INF, So., 5-10, San Diego, Calif.                                                                                    
Hawaii Pacific’s Tyler Arnold had 11 hits in four games to help lead the Sharks to a split of contests with Azusa Pacific. Arnold, who was a First Team All-PacWest pick in 2025 as a freshman, went 11-for-18 (.578) with four doubles, six runs scored and eight RBI. The San Diego native had three hits in two of the games and four in another. In the final game of the series, Arnold went 4-for-4 with five RBI and three doubles. On the season he is hitting .408 with 12 doubles and 23 RBI in 19 games.

PITCHER(S) OF THE WEEK: Hawaii Pacific’s Jayden Gabrillo, RHP/INF, Soph., 5-8, Ewa Beach, Hawaii                            
Hawaii Pacific’s Jayden Gabrillo picked up his second Pitcher of the Week award after a pinpoint performance against APU. The sophomore righthander pitched an even five innings and only allowed one hit (a single), no runs, walked just one batter and he struck out three. He left the game eligible for the win (which he got) on a very efficient 50 pitches. The local product from Ewa Beach is now 4-1 on the season with a 3.82 ERA.

PITCHER(S) OF THE WEEK: Point Loma’s Derek Silva, RHP, Jr., 5-9, Calexico, Calif.                                                            
Point Loma’s Derek Silva also earned his second Pitcher of the Week award after a shutdown performance at Menlo. Silva went 5.1 innings, gave up two hits, no runs, three walks and eight strikeouts on 83 pitches in a 15-0 win. Both hits were singles. The San Diego Mesa College transfer has not given up an earned run in his last three starts and is now 5-0 on the year with a 0.79 ERA.

TEAMS OF THE WEEK: The PacWest Team of the Week is the Point Loma Sea Lions. The Sea Lions rolled through Menlo for another 4-0 series win, their fourth straight. Coach Justin James’ team has won 16 in a row to start the PacWest season and is 20-3 overall. Their last loss was on February 7. The Sea Lions outscored the Oaks 54-17, with the offense led by Tristan Moore, who went 8-for-17 with two doubles, a home run and eight RBI.

THIS WEEK IN THE PACWEST: Four-game series on tap this week include Vanguard at Hilo, Point Loma at Fresno Pacific, Menlo at Chaminade, Biola at Concordia and Westmont at Hawaii Pacific.

PACWEST NEWS AND NOTES: Hawaii Hilo took three of four games from visiting Biola. Noah Nakaoka went 4-for-8 and drove in seven runs in the series…Westmont took three of four games from Fresno Pacific in a battle of two regionally ranked teams. Jesse Di Maggio drove home seven with three home runs and Manny Soto was outstanding in relief with 3.2 innings, no hits, no runs and one save…Jessup swept Chaminade on the road, getting a standout pitching performance from Kai Hirayama who went six innings and gave up just three hits, one run and he struck out nine.
