Sea Lions Win Third Straight Team of the Week Award

Point Loma is fifth at CSU San Marcos tournament. Menlo's Kim Penzold wins her first tournament to capture Player of the Week.

Since the calendar year flipped to 2026, Point Loma has won three straight Team of the Week awards. This time, the Sea Lions finished fifth in a loaded field of 18 at CSU San Marcos Fujikura Invite. Player of the Week goes to Menlo’s Kim Penzold for winning the RCA Electric Invitational.

2025-26 Schedule and Results

PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Menlo’s Kim Penzold, Fr., Warsaw, Poland                                                                    
Menlo’s Kim Penzold won the RCA Electric Invitational at Coyote Creek CC in Morgan Hill last week. The freshman won the three-round event with a total score of +12 with rounds of 72, 75 and 79 to top Dominican’s Faith Guevara by one shot. The Poland native had eight birdies over 54 holes to win her first collegiate tournament.

TEAM OF THE WEEK: Point Loma Sea Lions                                                                                                                                                                                                                                               
Point Loma earned their third straight Team of the Week honor after a fifth place finish at the CSUSM Fujikura Invitational in Vista. The Sea Lions had  +54 scorecard to finish in the upper half in the field of 13 teams. Point Loma had a consistent grouping with Avery Sky at +13, Allie Nguyen +14, Isabella Gunasayan +15 and Annika Yturraide +17. The Sea Lions finished above three other PacWest teams and have now placed first, second, and fifth in tournaments since the beginning of 2026.

PACWEST NEWS AND NOTES: In Vista, Westmont was the next PacWest team behind Point Loma, in eighth place. The Warriors were led by Hannah Camara at +12. Hawaii Hilo tied for ninth with Trinity Ledgerwood at +12 and Vanguard finished 13th, paced by Theresa Shaw at +13…At Menlo”s tournament, Dominican was the top team in the 5-club field led by Faith Guevara’s +13. Hawaii Pacific was second with Shuiyen He leading the Sharks at +17.

LOOKING AHEAD: The next tournaments on the books is Jessup playing in Carmel at Dallas Baptist’s tournament, while Westmont will be in Litchfield Park, AZ at a tournament sponsored by Southwest Minnesota State on those same dates. On March 23-24, Dominican will host four PacWest teams at the Richmond CC,  giving another PacWest preview prior to the PacWest Championships on April 20-22, 2026 at the North Las Vegas at the Aliante Golf Club.
