PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Biola’s Kennadie Tsue, Jr., INF, 5-3, R/R, Pearl City, Hawaii
Biola’s Kennadie Tsue went 7-for-12 (.583) during the Eagles’ four wins over Jessup. The junior slugger hit two home runs, drove in six, scored six times and hit for the series cycle with a double, triple and the two round-trippers. She hit both home runs and drove in five in the first game of the series, which included a grand slam which gave a the Eagles a 8-0 lead. Those were the first two home runs of the year for the third-year Eagle, and she now has 26 RBI on the season.
PITCHER OF THE WEEK: Biola’s DJ Symons, Sr., P, 5-10, L/L, Seattle, Wash.
Biola’s DJ Symons is the Pitcher of the Week for the second time this season after another eventful week of work. Symons picked up two of the four wins against Jessup, including a complete game five-inning shutout—allowing just three hits, no walks and she fanned a season-high nine batters. She appeared in all four games, finishing with 12.2 innings pitched with 10 hits, three earned runs, two walks, 15 strikeouts and a 1.66 ERA. The lefty is now 12-11 on the season, with her last seven decisions landing in the win column.
TEAM OF THE WEEK: The PacWest Team of the Week is the
Biola Eagles. Biola strengthened their lead in PacWest play with the sweep of Jessup, with Concordia’s split with Vanguard allowing the Eagles a little cushion. Biola is now 23-4 in conference play (.852) with Concordia right behind at 22-6 (.812). The Eagles took out the Warriors 5-4, 8-0, 14-8 and 5-2. The last game was suspended on Saturday in the sixth because of lightening with Jessup leading 2-0, but the Eagles began the day on Sunday with five runs in the top of the seventh to secure the win. Biola has now won 16 straight games and is 30-15 overall.
THIS WEEK IN THE PACWEST: There are some huge series coming up this week as the fight for postseason play continues. Today and tomorrow (Monday-Tuesday), Azusa Pacific is at Jessup, Biola is at Dominican and Menlo visits Hawaii Pacific. On Thursday-Friday, Hawaii Hilo hosts Menlo and Saturday’s games include a massive doubleheader between Concordia and Biola, Azusa Pacific is at Vanguard and Hawaii Pacific plays at Chaminade.
