Point Loma took three of four games against Westmont to clinch the PacWest title on April 18, the earliest in recent memory (maybe ever). Concordia moved into second place by winning four games, a few of them with much drama. Titus Wheelock continued his power surge with 11 RBI and two home runs in four games.

PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Fresno Pacific’s Titus Wheelock, 1B, Jr., 6-1, 270, Riverbank, Calif.
Fresno Pacific’s Titus Wheelock continues to hit home runs and drive in runs for the Sunbirds. This week, in a four-game series against Jessup, the junior first baseman went 7-for-15 (.467) and drove in 11 runs. He brought his teammates home in part via a double and two home runs, and he had five of his RBI in the third game of the series. In that 15-14 comeback win, he hit a three-run shot. The Modesto JC transfer now has 11 home runs on the season and 54 RBI.
PITCHER(s) OF THE WEEK: Point Loma’s Glen Huggins, RHP, Jr., 6-1, 195, Chula Vista, Calif.
Point Loma’s Glen Huggins didn’t give up a run in seven innings of work during a 7-0 win over Westmont that helped the Sea Lions clinch the PacWest regular season title. The junior righthander allowed just three hits, walked two and fanned five. The Southwestern JC transfer improved to 5-1 on the season with the win, throwing 101 pitches in the process. It was his second 7-inning shutout of the season.
PITCHER(s) OF THE WEEK: Concordia’s Matthew Kaiser, RHP, Jr. 6-1, 195, Los Alamitos, Calif.
Concordia’s Matthew Kaiser also tossed a seven-inning game, a complete game win over Azusa Pacific. He allowed only two hits, walked three and struck out six in the 7-0 victory. It was the third-year Golden Eagles’ fourth complete game of the season and third shutout. It is Kaiser’s second Pitcher of the Week award and fourth of his career.
TEAM OF THE WEEK: The PacWest Team of the Week is the
Concordia Golden Eagles. Concordia won four games last week to help their postseason status, which included a pair of wild comeback wins against Azusa Pacific. CUI put together back-to-back days of jaw-dropping comebacks erasing a 10–0 deficit against APU twice. On Friday they chipped away for the comeback win and on Saturday exploded for 10 runs in a single inning to force extras. Finished the series strong going 3–1 against the Cougars and they also split a doubleheader with Hawaii Hilo last Monday. CUI improved to 27-21 overall and is in second place in the PacWest at 25-15.
SPECIAL SEA LIONS SALUTE: Point Loma went 3-1 at home against Westmont and clinched the PacWest regular season title in the fourth game of the series. It is the earliest that a conference team has clinched the crown (April 18). The Sea Lions have now won four of the last five PacWest regular season trophies. Point Loma is now 35-8 on the year and 31-5 in league play, with an eight-game lead on second place Concordia.
