STOCKTON, Calif.--Hawai`i Hilo's Dylan Bercan fired a final day 68, tied for the lowest round on tournament Saturday, to qualify for the NCAA National Championships.
Bercan, the two-time Pacific West Conference champion, finished at -3 for the NCAA West/South Central Championships to tie for fourth at the Reserve at Spanos Park. He gradually climbed up the leaderboard after shooting a 74 on the first day, 71 the second and the 68 today.
The top six teams advance to the NCAA Championships, along with the top two individuals not on those six teams. The good news is, that got Bercan in. The bad news is that the Vulcan team, tied for seventh, just missed the sixth spot by one stroke.
The Vulcans finished with a +5 team score, tied with Dallas Baptist and just one shot back of CSU San Bernardino (+4). The tournament winner was Western Washington (-8), followed by West Texas A&M (-5) and CSU East Bay (Even).
Bercan's teammate
Ben Crinella finished at even par for the three rounds.
Fellow PacWest team
Vanguard finished tied for 15th (+19) and
Dominican was 20th (+48). Vanguard's
Tyler Williams was 10th overall (-1) and his teammate
Alex Elia finished at +2. Dominican's top player was
Daniel Marmorstein (+4). Competing individually,
Hawai`i Pacific's Kyle Krupp was at +2.
Bercan will next head to the NCAA National Championships, May 20-23 in Boulder City, Nevada, at the Boulder City Golf Club.
