It was a dominent season on the course to say the least for the
Hawai`i Hilo men's golf team, and that kingsmanship carried over to the Pacific West Conference postseason awards as well.
The Vulcans have the back-to-back Player of the Year and Coach of the Year in
Dylan Bercan and
Earl Tamiya, and also landed seven players on the All-PacWest teams. That means that Hilo claimed seven of the 15 spots available on those three teams, based on Clippd.com rankings.
Dominican's Jonathan Chen broke the monopoly with the Freshman of the Year award, as did
Hawai`i Pacific, Vanguard and
Dominican with one first team pick each.
In mid-April, Hawai`i Hilo won their fourth straight Pacific West Conference title by a whopping 18 strokes, and they tallied the second lowest score in conference history at -7 on the Aliante Golf Course in North Las Vegas.
Earl Tamiya was the director of all four of those championships and he has now led the team to seven total PacWest trophies, the most of any program in PacWest history. The Vulcans would go on to finish seventh at the NCAA West/South Central Region Championships, just missing the cut to qualify for the national championships by one shot.
Dylan Bercan represented Hawai`i Hilo at the NCAA National Championships in Nevada, after finishing fourth at the regional tournament. Bercan, the two-time PacWest champion and Player of the Year, went on to finish 18th at Boulder Creek with a three-round score of -5. In 2025, Bercan had to win a sudden death playoff to earn PacWest medalist honors, but this year he led from start to finish for a three-day tally of -8, the second lowest score in tournament history. There wasn't the drama of the year previous, as won the trophy by five shots.
Jonathan Chen of Dominican had a 73.7 scoring average in his rookie season. The Carmel native had a runner-up finish at the Visit Stockton Invitational, a regional preview event featuring 111 players. He also recorded a Top-10 finish at the RCA Electric Invitational, placing 6th, and added another strong showing at the Tim Tierney Pioneer Shootout with a 17th-place finish in a competitive 102-player field. Beyond his individual success, Chen played a pivotal role in helping the Penguins advance to the NCAA Regionals for just the second time in program history. Chen is ranked #40 regionally.
Joining Bercan on the First Team was teammate
Ben Crinella, along with Hawai`i Pacific's
Kyle Krupp and
Fisher Ransom. Dominican's Daniel Marmorstein was also in that top five. For Bercan, Crinella and Krupp, it was the third All-PacWest award in their careers.
On the second team, Hilo's
Dysen Park and
Jacob Torres also collected their third all-conference awards. Overall, nine of the 15 honorees were repeat All-PacWest selections.
The All-PacWest teams are based off of the year-end Clippd.com rankings, which take into account the metrics for the entire season.
