SAN DIEGO -- No. 6 seed Cal Poly Pomona upset No. 2 Point Loma 1-0 on Saturday afternoon in the NCAA West Regional semifinal to return to the West Regional Championship for the third consecutive year.
The loss for Point Loma ended a 16-match unbeaten streak as the Sea Lions finished with a 15-3-2. Point Loma has recorded four come-from-behind victories during the unbeaten streak, but couldn't find the equalizer in the final 28 minutes of play.
The Broncos scored the game-winning goal in the 62nd minute on a shot by Nadeer Ghantous. The CCAA Player of the Year Sergi Monso was credited with the assist. Jason Trejos earned the shutout for Cal Poly Pomona.
Cal Poly Pomona will next play on Thursday at No. 1 California Baptist for the NCAA West Regional title.
