SEATTLE -- A memorable season for Fresno Pacific men's soccer came to an end on Thursday with a 3-0 loss to defending West Region champion Cal Poly Pomona at Interbay Stadium in the first round of the NCAA West Regional.
The Sunbirds (14-3-1) outshot the Broncos (14-6-0) in the match, 21-13. Cal Poly Pomona made the most of its scoring opportunities with a goal in the 24th minute before adding two more goals right before the end of the game.
Anthony Velarde led Fresno Pacific's offensive attack, putting six of his nine shots on frame. Cal Poly Pomona has now won all of its last three games against PacWest teams without allowing a goal in any of the three victories.
Fresno Pacific finished the season with 14 wins, which is the most since the Sunbirds won the PacWest in 2014. Velarde finished his senior season as the PacWest leader in points on the season with 14 goals and 20 assists.
