IRVINE, Calif. – After winning the PacWest Championships, Dixie State earned three special awards to lead the 2017-18 PacWest Men’s Golf All-Conference Team as announced on Thursday.
PacWest Champion
Nicklaus Britt is also the PacWest Player of the Year after he won two individual titles in the month of April. The junior began with an individual title at the Mustang Intercollegiate where he shot a 12-under-par 204 over three rounds, including an amazing 9-under-par 63 in the final round. Britt also won the PacWest Championships by a single shot with a 5-under-par 211. He finished the event with a 4-under-par 68 in the final round to move up four spots on the leaderboard and claim the title.
Spencer Wallace is the PacWest Freshman of the Year following his second-place finish at the PacWest Championships. The freshman moved into first place after the second round, when he shot a tournament-low 5-under-par 67. The third-team selection wrapped up the event with a 4-under-par 212 to finish in second place. Earlier in the year, Wallace also tied for 12th place out of 60 competitors at the UCSD SoCal Intercollegiate with a score of 7-over-par 223.
Brad Sutterfield is the PacWest Coach of the Year as he led the Trailblazers to a conference title and three team titles so far this season. Since October, Dixie State has finished among the top-3 teams in every tournament that it has competed in. At the conference Championships, Sutterfield led Dixie State to a title by three shots, winning the event with a score of 9-over-par 873.
Britt is joined on the first team by golfers from four different teams. Dominican’s
Ty Macias is on the first team along with Hawai`i Hilo’s
Jared Kinoshita, Holy Names’
Zach Sims and
Ben Hallam from California Baptist. Holy Names, Dixie State, California Baptist and Dominican along with Academy of Art’s
Gabriel Manotoc, a third-team selection, will all be competing next week in the 2018 NCAA West/South Central Super Regional Tournament.
