Four PacWest Golfers Claim Individual Titles

IRVINE, Calif. – The PacWest once again had several impressive individual performances on the golf courses around the West Region with four student-athletes winning individual titles all in the same week to earn recognition as PacWest Golfers of the Week.
 
WOMEN’S GOLFER OF THE WEEK
Brady Turnquist, Biola
So. – Oregon City, Ore.
Turnquist continued her perfect start to her sophomore season by winning a second individual title in as many events. A month after winning the title at the PLNU Sea Lion Invitational, Turnquist won the Westminster Wasatch Invite with featured some of the top golfers from the West/South Central Super Region. The native of Oregon City turned in an strong opening round that proved to be enough for her to hold onto first place throughout the tournament. She shot a 3-under-par 69 in the opening round, which was four shots better than the next best score. She finished the tournament at 2-over-par 146 to win the tournament by a margin of three shots. She helped the Eagles take second place as a team out of 14 teams with a 37-over-par 613.
 
MEN’S CO-GOLFERS OF THE WEEK
Matthew Watkins, Academy of Art
Jr. – Novato, Calif.
It was a windy week at the Chico State Wildcat Classic with conditions forcing the second round of the tournament to be canceled, but Watkins fought through the conditions to win the title. While most of the field of 62 golfers posted high scores as a result of the windy conditions, Watkins had an eagle on the seventh hole and recorded an even-par 72, which was the best score of the round by three shots. He then shot a 2-over-par 74 at the Links at Rolling Hills, which was good enough to edge Brad Sparrer from Stanislaus State for first place by one stroke after his birdie on the 18th hole. Academy of Art finished in third place as a team with a 42-over-par 618.
 
Keli’i Kamelamela-Dudoit, Hawai`i Pacific
Jr. – Ho’olehua,Hawai’i
Kamelamela-Dudoit helped the Sharks win the Hawai`i Triangular with a score of 2-under-par 142 as he tied for first place with Keith Ng from Hawai`i Hilo. Kamelamelo-Dudoit finished the first round in first place with a 3-under-par 69 to lead Ng by three shots. Hawai`i Pacific led the Vulcans by six shots after the first round. Then on Tuesday, he shot a 1-over-par 73 to tie for first place individually. That result was just good enough to give Hawai`i Pacific the team title by a single stroke in an exciting finish.
 
Keith Ng, Hawai`i Hilo
Jr. – Richmond, Canada
Ng tied for first place at the Hawai`i Triangular at the Pearl Country Club, helping Hawai`i Hilo take second place as a team. Ng shot a 2-under-par 142 as he came from behind to tie with Keli’i Kamelamela-Dudoit for first place. In the first round Ng shot an even-par 72 and trailed by three shots. He then recorded the best second round out of the field of 25 golfers with a 2-under-par 70 to move into a tie for first place. The Vulcans finished just one shot behind first place with a 20-over-par 596.
