Warriors, Miller and Libby Earn PacWest Weekly Awards

Westmont Stuns Co-Champs, ART U point producer Miller is Player of the Week and PLNU's Libby is big as a defender and scorer

Gilly Miller of Academy of Art has been a point-producing machine, scoring two goals with three assists last week to land Player of the Week. Point Loma's Milo Libby was double trouble on both sides of the field during a 2-0 win over APU, and Westmont posted a stunner with a 4-0 blasting of defending co-champ Biola to grab Team of the Week.

PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Academy of Art's Gilly Miller, MF-F, Sr., 5-9, 155, Hackney, London
Gilly Miller has only played 313 minutes this season in five matches, but boy has he made those minutes count--especially last week. The London native had a goal and an assist in a 3-1 win over Chaminade, and added a goal and two more assists in a 3-2 victory over Hawai`i Pacific. In Miller's last three matches, he has totaled eight points. In five matches, the 2022 all-region and Second Team All-PacWest selection leads the PacWest with 1.60 points per match. Miller, who missed the first six matches of the season, is the all-time ART U leader in points (45), goals (16) and assists (13).

DEFENDER OF THE WEEK: Point Loma's Milo Libby, D, Jr., 6-5, 205, El Dorado Hills, Calif.
Point Loma picked up a huge home win over Azusa Pacific on Saturday (2-0), with Milo Libby scoring a goal and directing a defense that didn't allow a score. The 6-foot-5 defender sent a header off the back post and past the APU keeper in the first half for the score, his first goal of the season. On defense, APU got off 10 shots but only two of them were on goal as Libby helped direct shots astray. The Sea Lions have played eight matches this season, with the 2022 Second Team All-PacWest selection playing in all 90 minutes six times.

TEAM OF THE WEEK: Westmont Warriros
Westmont stunned 2022 PacWest co-champs Biola on Saturday, 4-0 in Santa Barbara. It was a heck of a way for the Warriors to notch its first-ever Division II and PacWest victory, and begin the conference season at 1-0. Leonel Olivio Ortiz scored two of those goals while the Warriors defense defused a number of Biola offensive opportunities. Biola had 15 shots in the game, five on goal. Brady Highfill led the WC defense with five saves while also recording his second straight shutout. 315 fans enjoyed the win, which was also the opening victory for first-year Westmont coach Morgan Cathey.
