Oaks, Zanichelli Capture Men's Golf Awards

Menlo wins Oregon Tech tournament, while ART U standout goes -11 at WWU

The 2023-24 PacWest Golfer of the Year picked up where he left off last spring with a sizzling -11 tally at the Western Washington Invitational. Giulio Zanichelli is the first PacWest Golfer of the Week for 2024-25, while conference newcomer Menlo earns the Team of the Week after winning the Run-in at the Ranch.

2024-25 Schedule and Results

PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Academy of Art's Giulio Zanichelli, Sr., 5-7, Parma, Italy
Academy of Art's Giulio Zanichelli played some excellent golf in the state of Washington over the past week to help jump start his 2024-25 season. The senior from Italy finished second in a crowded field in Belllingham at the Western Washington Invitational, finishing at 11-under par with three round scores of 70-68-67. He finished just two shots behind the winner (Xavier Bighaus, Colorado Christian), climbing two spots on the leaderboard on the final day with his season-best 67. A few days earlier in DuPont, Wash. at the SMU Bishop Invitational, the 2024 PacWest Golfer of the Year tied for fourth place at -3. Like in Bellingham, Zanichelli saved his best for the last day with a four-under par 68.

TEAM OF THE WEEK: Menlo Oaks
Menlo also had a good few days in the Pacific Northwest, winning the Run-in at the Ranch in Klamath Falls, Ore. The Oaks edged Southern Oregon by two strokes with a team tally of +7. Nicolas-Guy Landry led Menlo with a final round of 70 to climb into a tie for second place at +1 overall (75-70). He had three birdies and an eagle in his final fournd. Paul Hautbourg tied for fourth one stroke back of Landry (75-73). Heading into Tuesday's final round, the Oaks trailed by three strokes, but thanks in part to Landry and Jack Stark they roared back. Stark shot a 68, which included two eagles on the Running Y Resort course. "After day one we felt very confident going into day two," said head coach Ryan Stefko. "Throughout the entire day we were all very optimistic on what we were doing and knew the job that was necessary to be done and we executed very well. The players responded how they needed to. I'm very proud of them all."

UH Hilo led the entire field after the first round with a team score of 282. Michael Sorber was the Warriors' top shooter with a final tally of even par. His 67 in the final round was the low score of the tournament...In the first tournament of the season back on Sept. 10-11, Domincan bettered three other PacWest schools at the PCH Invitational in Carmel. The Penguins (+11) were 12 shots better than second-place Menlo, with Westmont and Jessup to follow.
