Warriors and Zanichelli Grab Golf Awards

Westmont and Nichola Rocha hosted but kept their tournament awards. ART U's Zanichelli keeps posting negative scores, this time carding a -10.

Giulio Zanichelli did it again, playing birdie golf and winning his second straight Player of the Week award. This time, he will share it with Westmont's Nicholas Rocha, who won the Warriors' tournament, as did his teammates for Team of the Week.

CO-PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Academy of Art's Giulio Zanichelli, Sr., 5-7, Parma, Italy                                    
Academy of Art's Giulio Zanichelli played his way to a second place finish for the second straight week, this time at the Wildcat Challenge hosted by Chico State. At The Links at Rolling Hills in Corning, Calif., the 2024 PacWest Player of the Year was under par in all three rounds, turning in scores of 68-67-71 for a scorching tally of -10. The Italian finished only behind Travis Miller of Chico State (-13) and ahead of a field of 50+ players from CS East Bay, Sonoma State, CS Monterey Bay, Chico State, and Jessup. 

CO-PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Westmont's Nicholas Ramos, Fr., 5-8, Laredo, Texas                                        
Westmont's Nicholas Rocha won his first collegiate tournament in just his second start by grabbing medalist honors at the Westmont Invitational at the Sandpiper GC. The Texas native had rounds of 70 and 71 (-3) to win by a stroke over Arnold He of Claremont-Mudd-Scripps.

Westmont kept their own trophies purchased for the Westmont Invitational by topping six other teams in the two-day tournament. The Warriors had scores of 294 and 292 in foggy conditions to edge Claremont-Mudd-Scripps by three strokes. In addition to Nicholas Ramos' winning numbers, the Warriors featured Blaze Rader in fourth place (+2), Tyler Williams in 15th and Max Hosfield and Ryan Brady tied at +9. Westmont beat fellow PacWest clubs Menlo (fifth), Dominican (seventh) and Chaminade (seventh).

PACWEST NEWS AND NOTES: At the Westmont Invitational, Dominican's Daniel Marmorstein placed third at +1. Menlo's Jack Stark tied with Westmont's Blaze Rader (+2), and Chaminade's top player was Jack Yeager at +5...At Chico State, where Academy of Art and Jessup competed, Jessup's Michael Sorber was the next PacWest golfer behind Giulio Zanichelli at -2 (70-75-69), followed by Mario Stump of ART U at -1, Anson Pan (ART U) at even par and Braden Armstrong of Jessup at +2.

LOOKING AHEAD: The Hawai`i teams will return to the site of the 2024 PacWest Championships at Mauna Lani on the Big Island, playing rounds on Saturday and Sunday. On Monday-Tuesday, four PacWest teams will partake in the Otter Invitational in Seaside, Calif.--Dominican, Academy of Art, Jessup and Westmont. Meanwhile, Vanguard will host Menlo and others in Beaumont at the Oak Valley GC.
