Sharks Win Shootout for Two Awards

Hawai`i Pacific wins their second tournament of the Fall, with Shuiyan He taking medalist and Player of the Week honors.

Hawai`i Pacific won the Southwest Airlines HPU Shark Shootout a weekend ago to win the Team of the Week award for the second time. Shuiyun He was the medalist in the seven-team tournament, giving the Sharks back-to-back Player of the Week honors, their first two POW’s ever.

Hawai`i Pacific's Shuiyun He won the Southwest Airlines HPU Shark Shootout on Oct. 23-25 at the Pearl at Kalauao on Oahu. The senior shot consecutive consistent rounds of 77 (+10) to edge teammate Isabella Iorio (+12) by two shots. That put the Shark duo ahead of the 40 golfers in the field and seven teams. He, a third-year HPU player, was a Second Team All-PacWest honoree in 2024.

Hawai`i Pacific won their second tournament of the Fall in capturing their own Southwest Airlines HPU Sharks Shootout. The Sharks finished at +52, 19 shots better than Seattle Pacific and five more than third-place Hawai`i Hilo. Shuiyun He (+10) and Isabella Iorio (+12) went 1-2 for the Sharks, followed by Paige Sur who tied for fifth (+15), Giuliana Rovetti was seventh (+16), and Kameron Kwong (+19). The Sharks, runner-up at the 2025 PacWest Championships, will take the rest of the Fall off and won’t play again until next February.

PACWEST NEWS AND NOTES: On Oahu, Hawai`i Hilo was one of the seven teams that competed, finishing third. Kailey McKee was the top Vulcan golfer at +15, tied for fifth…Six PacWest teams played earlier this week at CS East Bay’s tournament, which was won by No. 21 ranked CS San Marcos by ten strokes at +32. Point Loma finished in fifth (+58), with the next three PacWest teams packed tightly together—Westmont (+87), Dominican (+88), Menlo (+89), Jessup (+92). Vanguard was next (+157). The top individual PacWest player was Menlo’s Kim Penzold, who finished seventh at +7 with three-round scores of 75-71-77. Jessup’s Julianne Canda tied for 10th (+10), Cristen Faith Legaspi of Dominican tied for 12th (+11) with Isabella Gunassayan of Point Loma. Vanguard’s top player was Theresa Shaw at +21.

LOOKING AHEAD: The schedule is done for the Fall. Play resumes in January and February, with all matches pointing towards the PacWest Championships on April 20-22, 2026 in North Las Vegas at the Aliante Golf Club.
