NORTH LAS VEGAS, Nev.—Defending PacWest champion Hawaii Hilo and returning 2025 medalist Dylan Bercan of the Vulcans made a opening day statement on Monday at the Pacific West Conference Men’s Golf Championships at the Aliante Golf Course. Bercan leads the field after shooting a 68 (-4) on the first of three days to lead by two shots over teammate Jacob Torres and Vanguard’s Kyle Koski (-2). As a team, the Vulcans have a 10-shot lead over second place Vanguard (+9). Bercan had six birdies and two bogeys over his 18 holes today. He sandwiched three of those birdies around two of those bogeys on the final five holes of the day. Koski also had six birdies and was tied with Bercan with a hole to play but double bogeyed 18. Torres had four birdies and two bogeys on a warm afternoon in the desert. The Vulcans built their lead behind Bercan and Torres, but also with Katsuhiro Yamashita contributing an even-par round. Dysen Park and Ben Crinella rounded out the scoring for Hilo, both with rounds of 77 (+5). Vanguard has a one-shot lead over third place Hawaii Pacific (+10) in a tight pack of teams. Jessup is next (+11), followed closely by Dominican (+12), Westmont (+12), Menlo (+13) and Chaminade (+16). On the leaderboard, after Bercan, Koski and Torres, HPU’s Shion Suzuki is fourth (-1). There is a four-way tie for fifth at even par—Riley Born (Chaminade), Braden Armstrong (Jessup), Jacobus Brakkee (Jessup) and Yamashita.
